There are few better feelings in life as a classic car owner than being able to drive around in glorious sunshine when it’s beautifully warm. Your car looks fantastic, you feel great and the whole experience can make you forget everything else that’s going on around you.
But whilst you should undoubtedly be taking the summer to truly enjoy your classic car, it’s also the time when you should start to think about how you’re going to store it over the coming months.
We’re fully aware that winter may well be several months away (although that is arguable, living in the UK!), but the simple fact is if you don’t start at least some planning and preparation now, you could find your car is parked on your driveway covered in snow.
You don’t have to make a detailed plan about how you’re going to store your vehicle in the coming few months, but you need to have an idea of which route you’re going to go down and where possible, begin the preparations and get the ball rolling.
For example, if you’re going to be using a secure car storage facility, now would be a good time to work out which facility you’re going to use, based on a variety of factors relevant to you (such as location if you want easy, regular access).
If you are going to use a car storage facility, it would also be worthwhile making contact with the company now. As you’ll no doubt be aware if you’ve ever visited a classic car event, there are tens of thousands of active classic car owners in the UK at least and whilst not all will be looking to use a professional facility to store their vehicle in over winter, many will be.
Therefore, if you leave it too long, you could find you don’t have any option other than to store your vehicle at home.
Of course, if you’re going down the route of storing your vehicle at home, you need to feel confident that you have all the necessary resources to do so effectively. OK, this may not take the next three or four months to prepare, but if you’re working full time and have other commitments (even if that’s simply having a family), you could find your free time is minimal and the next few months pass by before you know it.
All classic car owners want to keep their vehicles in the best condition possible right throughout the year. Generally easier in the summer (weather permitting!), come winter, it’s a whole other story and you really need to feel confident you’re ready for the colder months of the year when it comes to classic car storage.
